This course is designed for employees preparing and shipping small lithium batteries with a low capacity. It covers the provisions for batteries shipped on their own, packed or contained in equipment and may be prepared for either road, rail, sea or air shipment(s) or a combination thereof. Such batteries are often used in power tools, laptops, tablets, mobile phones and other electronic devices such as powerbanks and segboards.

The legislations require:

Employees taking part in the preparation of small lithium batteries with low capacity for air shipments shall be instructed in the provisions stated in section 1.6 in the IATA legislation.

Employees preparing shipments for road, rail and/or sea transport are only obligated to follow the provisions stated in these legislations i.e., the ADR Agreement (road), the RID Regulation (rail) and the IMDG Code (sea).

Duration:

The duration of the course is estimated to approximately 2 hours.

Particular requirements:

No prerequisites are required to commence on this course.

Please note that the course is not in compliance with the training provisions stated in chapter 1.3 in the ADR Agreement, RID Regulation, IMDG Code or Section 1.5 in the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations.

Content:

The content of the course is carefully prepared in accordance with the legislations and contains the following:

- Batteries and equipment subject to the provisions

- Obligations and training requirements

- Identification and classification of lithium batteries

- Approvals

- Defect and damaged lithium batteries

- Required documents

- Packaging and mixed packaging

- Marking provisions

Validity
The training shall be repeated no later than every 24 months to keep up-to-date with the requirements for air shipments as stipulated in chapter 1.6 in the IATA provisions.
